Originally organized for October 2020, the Second Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pacific is now scheduled for 16 - 19 November 2021.
Considering the challenges due to COVID-19, the Regional Steering Group for CRVS in Asia and the Pacific made a recommendation to the 76th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific to postpone the Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS. The Commission adopted the decision to postpone the Second Ministerial Conference on 21 May 2020. The Secretariat, along with the Regional Steering Group and co-organisers of the conference, chose the 16th to 19th November 2021 as the new date.
The current crisis sheds light on the need for resilient civil registration systems which will be reflected in the new programme for the Conference. Some documents' publication and meetings are still expected to occur in the build-up to inform stakeholders and leave space and time for discussions on how to best address remaining challenges to achieving the CRVS Decade goals and targets.
