Since the beginning of the Asia-Pacific CRVS Decade, multiple countries in the region have embarked on using civil registration records for the production of vital statistics reports, which is one of the targets of the Regional Action Framework on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific.
UNHCR, in collaboration with the Organization of American States, has published a report on "Emergency response by civil registry and identification offices during the COVID-19 pandemic: Impact, best practices and innovative initiatives implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean".
To promote the launch of the CRVS Improvement Framework, ESCAP and Vital Strategies have published a blog. Recognizing that Asia and the Pacific has seen significant progress toward the shared vision that all people will benefit from universal and responsive CRVS systems, it also points to the shortfalls in this progress.
Over the past decade, efforts to strengthen Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems have centered on deploying a range of improvement tools aimed at achieving universal civil registration and generating reliable vital statistics for reporting and planning. These experiences—along with lessons learned by countries and partners—culminated in 2021 with the creation of the CRVS Systems Improvement Framework (“the Framework”).
