    The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

  • Asia-Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Research Forum

    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) organized the first Asia-Pacific CRVS Research Forum which was held from 3-4 April 2023. Hosted by ESCAP in Bangkok, the fully online event offered a major research, information sharing, and capacity-building opportunity for participants. They were able to present at and attend paper presentations and interactive sessions, including networking opportunities.

Consultation on Draft Policy for Data Use and Data Sharing

As healthcare challenges continue to mount worldwide, effective data use and sharing is imperative. In support of health information sharing as a public good, WHO and it’s Director-General’s office is working to finalize a Policy on Use and Sharing of Data Collected in Member States by the WHO Outside the Context of Public Health Emergencies. The document sets out a systematic and comprehensive approach to data use and data sharing.

The Philippines, through the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), is organizing the 2017 International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals Statistics (ICSDGS) on 4-6 October 2017 in Manila, Philippines. Boosting birth registration in Pakistan with mobile phones

UNICEF has been working with the Departments of Local Government and Health, the National Data Base Registration Authority (NADRA) and the mobile telecom network operator Telenor to register every child in the province of Sindh. In the past, the birth registration process was notoriously cumbersome and time-consuming, so many parents opted to leave their children unregistered. Some parents were also unaware of the benefits of birth registration. However this year, the innovative pilot project for birth registration through mobile phones has made the entire process easy and efficient.

Viet Nam moves forward on the National Action Programme on CRVS

During 14-16 March, staff from the ESCAP Statistics Division met with key stakeholders in Viet Nam to discuss improvements to the CRVS system and the National Action Programme on CRVS. ESCAP staff and an expert consultant met with the Ministry of Justice, Agency for Civil registration, Nationality and Attestation, People's Committee of Nghia Tan ward, Ministry of Health, General Statistics Office and colleagues from UNICEF, UNHCR, WHO and UNFPA. 

Workshop on Information Management in Disaster Risk Management Decision Making

This workshop is organized by World Vision, and it aims to contribute towards improving the awareness and capacity of stakeholders in Asia Pacific to apply information management in DRM decision-making. It is in fact the culmination of a series of awareness-raising workshops started in September 2016 through March 2017 held in Myanmar, Philippines and Solomon Islands.

Technical Seminar on Legal Framework for Civil Registration, Vital Statistics and Identity Management Systems

United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is organizing a Technical Seminar on Legal Framework for Civil Registration, Vital Statistics and Identity Management Systems. The seminar will take place in Manila, Philippines, from 17 to 19 July 2017 and will be conducted in English.
