    The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

  • Asia-Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Research Forum

    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) organized the first Asia-Pacific CRVS Research Forum which was held from 3-4 April 2023. Hosted by ESCAP in Bangkok, the fully online event offered a major research, information sharing, and capacity-building opportunity for participants. They were able to present at and attend paper presentations and interactive sessions, including networking opportunities.

77th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The 77th session of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Commission (ESCAP) will be held from April 26th to 29th 2021 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand and via videoconferencing. The annual Commission Session provides a forum for Governments of the region to review and discuss economic and social issues and strengthen regional cooperation. Moreover, it provides a platform for decision-makers to launch regional initiatives.

Workshop on ‘Essentials of National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS)’ in Islamabad, Pakistan

As part of a broad project to strengthen the CRVS system in Pakistan, the Technical Support Unit (TSU) of the Ministry of Planning is organizing, in collaboration with ESCAP, a workshop on the Essentials of National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS).

The current situation of the CRVS system of Pakistan will be discussed, along with what can be done to improve it.

APFSD Side Event: Invisibility in COVID-19 times, Mid-Term and Mid-Crisis

The Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2021 will in part be dedicated to the in-depths review of SDGs 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 17, which include target 16.9 on the provision of legal identity for all, including birth registration, and indicator 17.19.2(b) on the percentage of countries having achieved 100 per cent birth registration and 80 per cent death registration.
