Vietnam's National Assembly passed the Law on Identification in 2023 to replace the Law on Citizen Identification 2014. The new law, taking effect from July 2024, is extended to migrants and foreigners settling in the country. People of Vietnamese origin living in Vietnam without citizenship will have identity certificates issued, and this will help ensure their fundamental rights. The Law on Identification will also expand and integrate information of citizens from other database into the national database on population.
