The Statistics Division of ESCAP has sent invitations to National Statistical Offices (NSOs) to express their interest in participating in a project to strengthen national capacity in producing and disseminating vital statistics from civil registration records in Asia and the Pacific. The ESCAP project is organized under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative (D4H) and aims to support the implementation of the Regional Action Framework on CRVS, in particular Goal 3 which stipulates that accurate, complete and timely vital statistics, based on registration data, should be produced and disseminated. Running between December 2016 and March 2017, the project will provide two sequential training workshops, as well as the follow-up technical guidance to project countries to each design and implement a project to process and analyze data from civil registration records, leading to the drafting and completion of national vital statistics report. Upon receiving expressions of interest, ESCAP will decide on the final list of the countries to participate, based on an assessment of the extent to which countries can benefit from participating in the project while priority will be given to developing countries in consideration of their previous activities to improve CRVS.
