CRVS completeness assessment workshop in CambodiaIn collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of Cambodia, Vital Strategies and ESCAP organised a three-day hands-on training workshop in Phnom Penh from October 7-9, 2024, as part of the CRVS completeness assessment initiative. The workshop focused on using data from the 2024 Cambodia Intercensal Survey (CIPS) to assess the completeness of birth and death registrations at both national and sub-administrative levels. Online birth registration is now available in JapanUnder Japan’s family registration law, parents must submit a birth registration document and a doctor-issued birth certificate to their municipal government within 14 days of their child’s birth. From the end of August 2024, physical submission of necessary documents to a municipal government is no longer required. Both birth registrations and birth certificates can be submitted online in Japan. Engagement with young people and CSOsTo promote the participation of children, youth and civil society in CRVS activities, a joint Young People and Civil Society Forum will be held on 4-6 March 2025 at the UN Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand. The Forum will reach consensus on a statement from children and youth, and a statement from civil society to be given during the Third Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific on 24-26 June 2025. The consultation on CRVS inequality assessment in IndonesiaFrom October 29-30, 2024, a two-day workshop will be held in Bandung and will follow by a consultation meeting with mid-level stakeholders on November 1, 2024, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
