Resources for Civil registration in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic

The current pandemic is disrupting CRVS systems all over the world, but well-functioning systems are more essential than ever. As a result, the UN Statistics Division, the World Health Organization and the UN Legal Identity Agenda Task Force have developed resources offering guidance for civil registration stakeholders on maintaining CRVS activities.

For instance, UNSD developed a platform for the statistical community to share actions and best practices and the WHO updated the ICD-10 with new codes for COVID-19. Meanwhile, the UN Legal Identity Agenda Task Force, co-chaired by the UN Statistics Division/DESA, UNDP and UNICEF, and with UNECA and UNESCAP spearheading the implementation of UN LIA in our respective regions, issued a list of recommendations (below) for civil registration authorities to ensure operational continuity during the pandemic and allow for the continued production of comprehensive vital statistics.
