(Newsletter: CRVS Insight November 2019)

The second CR8 meeting was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (UNICEF-ROSA), and hosted by the Department of National Registration of the Government of Maldives, from 26 to 28 November 2019 in Maldives.

In 2018, professionals active in civil registration in South Asia held the first meeting of the Civil Registration Professionals of South Asia (CR8). The second meeting in November 2019 focused on:

1. Areas of common concern to the civil registrars;
2. Sharing of innovative practices; and,
3. Discussions of the mid-term questionnaire and mid-term review of the implementation of the Regional Action Framework for CRVS in Asia and the Pacific.

The meeting specifically included half-day discussions on the legislative framework for CRVS, marriage registration, and the use of information and communication technology in civil registration. Participants also benefited from a site visit exploring the registration processes in the Maldives.
