A new identity checking system has been established in Vanuatu for coming provincial elections to in May. Scanners will be used to double-check voter's identity and voting eligibility based on their national ID cards.
This comes as the latest development in the Vanuatu Electoral Environment Project (VEEP), supported by UNDP and funded by the Government of New Zealand. It aims at contributing to Vanuatu's democratic development by strengthening institutions and building public trust.
