Event Details
Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have been working with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to standardise the geographic variables in the national birth registration database (place of birth; place of birth registration). This workshop was the first activity to be undertaken by Fiji CRVS stakeholders as part of their Global Grants Program (GGP) funding (supported by Vital Strategies), to assess gender inequities in on-time birth registration. Attended by stakeholders from Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and development partners such as SPC, the workshop discussed preliminary findings with stakeholders which will inform targeted interventions in geographical areas where gender inequities in on-time birth registration have been identified. The workshop was also attended by civil registrars from more remote divisions of Fiji who provided their insights on the bottlenecks experienced by families in registering the births of their children.
