Improving statistical production, management and use is a priority under the recently developed Action Plan for Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (APPCRVS), 2023-2026, in which coverage of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) data and indicators on births and deaths is included. Additionally, Pacific island countries have committed to the Regional Action Framework on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific, which commits countries to: “Universal registration of births deaths and other vital events” (Goal 1); and ensuring that “Accurate, complete and timely vital statistics (including on causes of death) are produced based on registration records and are disseminated” (Goal 3).
This 5-day workshop which is jointly organized by the Pacific Island Health Officers Association (PIHOA), The Pacific Community (SPC) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), will take place from 16-20 September in Honolulu, Hawaii. The purpose of this workshop is to provide health and vital statistics personnel from three jurisdictions (The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam and American Samoa) with the time, knowledge and skills they require to develop a vital statistics report.
