Originally postponed because of the global pandemic, the Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS now has new dates for the 16th to 19th November, 2021. The current situation hindered preparations for the event in 2020, but we are back on track to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity.

ESCAP is collecting country midterm questionnaires to measure regional progress through the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024). Responses will inform and guide preparations for the Second Ministerial Conference in November 2021.

The CRVS community in Asia and the Pacific is now actively preparing for the celebration of the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), planned for 16 to 19 November 2021. In this effect, many of our partners and member countries are leading actions and publications to establish where the region stands and to fill the remaining gaps. In preparation for the Second Ministerial Conference on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and Pacific, the Child Rights Coalition Asia, World Vision, and UN ESCAP will, over the coming months, conduct:
The CRVS Partnership for Asia and the Pacific is composed of different international organizations and development partners involved in programs related to the improvement of CRVS systems in the Asia-Pacific region. The Partnership meets regularly to discuss preparations for upcoming events and engage in round table information sharing meant to enable project alignment.

Women and children are often vulnerable to being left behind, particularly when they are undocumented, or their legal identity is unclear. A regional project was therefore initiated to examine these issues and contribute to enhancing the capacity of the ACWC and ASEAN Member States to promote and protect the rights of women and children to legal identity, civil registration, birth registration, access to identity documentation and nationality.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set an ambitious agenda to produce relevant, reliable and timely data. The quantity and breadth of data required to monitor and evaluate the SDGs presents a considerable challenge to national statistical systems. Therefore, National Statistical Offices (NSOs) have a major role in making the best use of existing data sources.
The University of Melbourne, as part of the Bloomberg Data for Health (D4H) Initiative, is launch another round of the CRVS Fellowship Program. The Program is aimed at enabling CRVS professionals from low and middle-income countries to work remotely on CRVS projects with support, resources and skills development from experts at the University of Melbourne. Selected Fellows will work to build their own technical capacity and enhance the institutional quality, sustainability and policy utility of CRVS systems.
The Regional Steering Group is responsible for overseeing and steering the implementation of the Regional Action Framework on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pacific, also acting as the custodian of the Asia and Pacific CRVS Decade (2015 - 2024).
