This involves designing projects to address practical questions, employing robust methodologies, and identifying key personnel for effective implementation and publication. The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

The Sustainable Development Goals give increased impetus for improving CRVS systems since a large proportion of the indicators are relying heavily on data, which can be obtained from well functioning CRVS systems. In addition to this, two specific indicators highlight the need for registration.
Last week, participants from Health, Statistics and Civil Registration in six small Pacific Island States met in Auckland, New Zealand to share experiences and identify ways forward to improve national CRVS systems.
