2025 review of CRVS progress in Asia and the Pacific

Members and Associate Members of ESCAP are currently undertaking a review of their progress since the inception of the Asia Pacific CRVS Decade in 2014. A questionnaire has been distributed to National CRVS focal points and should be returned to ESCAP by 15 September.

The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

Civil Society Consultations on CRVS in Indonesia

Civil society and non-governmental organizations play a critical role in engaging with communities including in raising awareness of the importance of civil registration amongst populations. CSOs can also advocate for efficient CRVS systems to decision-makers, support the implementation of civil registration, increasing the responsiveness and accountability of responsible stakeholders, and in ensuring universal, inclusive and timely civil registration.

Towards Inclusivity: The Development of Civil Registration in Indonesia 2019-2023

Towards Inclusivity: The Development of Civil Registration in Indonesia 2019–2023 illustrates the disparity in population administration through the level of completeness of civil registration in various regions, social groups, and economies. The results show that disadvantaged areas and poor community groups have a much lower recording rate than other groups. The study also identifies driving factors, such as civil registration service programs, as well as key obstacles, such as the characteristics of vulnerable populations, poverty, and unemployment.

CRVS Civil Society Consultations in Cambodia

ESCAP, in partnership with Vital Strategies, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), and key local partners, organized the first country level consultations civil society consultations in the lead up to the Third Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific. The consultations were held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on December 3, 2024. These discussions focused on an in depth understanding of CRVS systems with an emphasis on universality, inclusivity, and sustainability.

7th Border Management and Identity Conference
