    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will organize the first Asia-Pacific CRVS Research Forum to be held from 3 – 4 April 2023. Hosted by ESCAP in Bangkok, this fully online event offers a major research, information sharing, and capacity-building opportunity for participants, who will be able to present at and attend paper presentations and interactive sessions, including networking opportunities.

    The current pandemic is disrupting CRVS systems all over the world, but also highlighting why well-functioning systems are more essential than ever. As a result, the UN Statistics Division, the World Health Organization and the UN Legal Identity Agenda Task Force developed COVID-19 resources offering guidance for civil registration stakeholders on maintaining CRVS activities.

Implementing the outcome of the High Level Meeting on CRVS (ESCAP Resolution 69/15)

This resolution calls for ESCAP to convene a regional intergovernmental ministerial meeting on CRVS in 2014. In addition, among other things, the resolution reiterates the call for countries to conduct assessments of CRVS systems, supports the Committee on Statistics’ endorsement of the Regional Strategic Plan for the Improvement of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in the Asia and the Pacific, and requests ESCAP to establish a regional steering group on CRVS.

The Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies Policy Brief Vol. 3, No. 2 2014

This policy brief proposes a framework with options for countries to rapidly improve information about cause of death (COD) in their populations, which includes a series of actions that are based on the literature and national experiences with intervention strategies according to the level of statistical development of a country.

CRVS Partnership

The CRVS Partnership for Asia and the Pacific is comprised of both UN funds and programmes, as well as international development partners presently engaged in helping Asia-Pacific countries improve their CRVS systems.
