• Asia-Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Research Forum

    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will organize the first Asia-Pacific CRVS Research Forum to be held from 3 – 4 April 2023. Hosted by ESCAP in Bangkok, this fully online event offers a major research, information sharing, and capacity-building opportunity for participants, who will be able to present at and attend paper presentations and interactive sessions, including networking opportunities.

  • Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific

    The Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS took place from the 16th to 19th November, 2021. It has been the occasion to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity.

  • Resources for civil registration during the COVID-19 pandemic

    The current pandemic is disrupting CRVS systems all over the world, but also highlighting why well-functioning systems are more essential than ever. As a result, the UN Statistics Division, the World Health Organization and the UN Legal Identity Agenda Task Force developed COVID-19 resources offering guidance for civil registration stakeholders on maintaining CRVS activities.

National CRVS Stakeholders' Conference in Cebu, Philippines

The Philippine National CRVS Stakeholders’ Conference for the Development of Strategies in Strengthening the Philippine CRVS System Phase 2 was conducted from 15-17 November 2022, with 150 participants, consisting of national stakeholders, including the Department of Health and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), WHO country office, UNICEF, UNFPA, CDC Foundation, and ESCAP. 

A Meeting of Civil Registrars in South-East Asia, Manila, Philippines, 7-9 February 2023

An initial meeting of the SEA registrars will be organized with support of the Philippines Statistics Authority on 7-9 February 2023 in Manila and will be part of the CRVS month in the Philippines. Multiple partners are supporting the event including ESCAP, Vital Strategies, Global Health Advocacy Incubator, UNICEF, UNFPA, and possible others.  The objectives of the meeting are: 1. To explore and possibly initiate the establishment of a network for civil registrars in South-East Asia 2.

A Meeting of the Pacific Civil Registrars Network, 20 – 22 March 2023, Suva, Fiji

The Pacific Civil Registrars Network (PCRN) was created in 2014. Our vision is that by 2024 the Civil Registrars across the Pacific will work together in ways that are flexible to local needs, with a shared approach to legislative change, enabling technology and data exchange. We provide an opportunity to share information, lessons learned and good practice. This fosters coordination and integration of Civil Registrars’ input and ideas into the implementation of the Pacific Vital Statistics Action Plan and Asia-Pacific Regional Action Framework for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics.

First National Capacity Building Workshop for Assessing Inequalities in Registration in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is orgainizing the First National Capacity Building Workshop for Assessing Inequalities in Registration from 19-21 December 2022. The workshop aims to build skills in analyzing data to assess inequalities in registration of births and deaths. Real-world data from Bangladesh will be used and discussed in order to provide greater depth and meaning to the skills gained.
