The CRVS community in Asia and the Pacific has reflected on where it stands at the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024) during the Second Ministerial Conference. An initial meeting of the SEA registrars will be organized with support of the Philippines Statistics Authority on 7-9 February 2023 in Manila and will be part of the CRVS month in the Philippines. Multiple partners are supporting the event including ESCAP, Vital Strategies, Global Health Advocacy Incubator, UNICEF, UNFPA, and possible others. The objectives of the meeting are: 1. To explore and possibly initiate the establishment of a network for civil registrars in South-East Asia 2.
The Pacific Civil Registrars Network (PCRN) was created in 2014. Our vision is that by 2024 the Civil Registrars across the Pacific will work together in ways that are flexible to local needs, with a shared approach to legislative change, enabling technology and data exchange. We provide an opportunity to share information, lessons learned and good practice. This fosters coordination and integration of Civil Registrars’ input and ideas into the implementation of the Pacific Vital Statistics Action Plan and Asia Pacific Regional Action Framework for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics.
This workshop is organized subsequent to the Civil Registration Vital Statistics (CRVS) Second National Capacity Building Workshop for Assessing Inequalities in Registration, organized during 25-28 October 2022, Hybrid and in Vangvieng, Lao PDR.
Bangladesh is orgainizing the First National Capacity Building Workshop for Assessing Inequalities in Registration from 19-21 December 2022. The workshop aims to build skills in analyzing data to assess inequalities in registration of births and deaths. Real-world data from Bangladesh will be used and discussed in order to provide greater depth and meaning to the skills gained.
A new World Bank project aims to strengthen population and civil registration and increase usage of digital identification to improve delivery and accessibility of selected public and private sector services for all Indonesians.
The Project is organized into five components that together form a comprehensive, integrated, and forward-looking approach for achieving the PDO (Project Development Objective):
Improved access to and efficiency of population and civil registration
Modern, scalable and secure ICT infrastructure
The Ten-Year Pacific Statistics Strategy (TYPSS) 2010–2020 was adopted by leaders of Pacific Islands Countries and Territories (PICTs) in 2009. TYPSS was developed in recognition of the need for a comprehensive plan to drive the improvement and development of statistics in the Pacific region.
The Pacific Community (SPC) in collaboration with Brisbane Accord Group (BAG) partners will be running workshops for Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) on medical certification of cause of death (MCCD) and ICD mortality coding. The workshops will also provide guidance on the new version of ICD (ICD-11). These workshops will be implemented under the Pacific Islands Regional Programme on Strengthening the Availability and Quality of Causes of Death Data supported by the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative.
A multi-stakeholder group of approximately 20 participants from Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Health and Medical Services convened for the second capacity building workshop for assessing inequalities in civil registration in Suva, Fiji from 29 November to 1 December 2022.
