Members and Associate Members of ESCAP are currently undertaking a review of their progress since the inception of the Asia Pacific CRVS Decade in 2014. A questionnaire has been distributed to National CRVS focal points and should be returned to ESCAP by 15 September.

Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

Vital Statistics of India based on the civil registration system 2013

This issue of the Report on ‘Vital Statistics of India based on the Civil Registration System’ for the year 2013 provides an overview of the working of the Civil Registration System (CRS) in the country and presents a compilation of data on registered births, deaths and infant deaths with rural-urban & sex-wise break-up and sex ratio at birth based on Civil Registration Records. Ideally, an Annual Report on vital statistics containing more detailed information should have been brought out.

A child who is not registered at birth is invisible

A key goal of the Government of the Solomon Islands is to establish functional civil registration services in rural and urban areas.This video captures the value of an expanded and decentralized approach towards birth registration in significantly contributing towards the establishment of a wider national civil registration system in the long term. The improved system will reach all children in the main island as well as the outer islands.

UNICEF releases video on birth registration in Kiribati

UNICEF has just published three videos on birth registration in the Pacific, the videos highlight the different challenges as well as some of the common solutions for birth registration. The 15 minute video on Kiribati 'My name, My future: Birth registration in Kiribati' explains the Kiribati government's plans to decentralize civil registration services to all provinces and expand the number of service points and agencies with authority to provide civil registration.
