The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

The overall theme of the fourth Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development is "Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing Asia-Pacific." The Forum will engage Member States, United Nations and other institutions, major groups and other stakeholders in a dialogue on regional priorities for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific. It will address scientific and technological innovation for sustainable development and focus attention on poverty eradication whilst fostering prosperity, through a discussion on achieving SDG 1 in the region.
UNICEF launched a new report “Is every child counted? Status of data for children in the SDGs” on March 16th during a side event to the 48th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission. The report provides a status report on the data availability of child related SDG indicators showing that sufficient data is available only for half of those.

Many indicators, such as those on poverty and violence cannot be compared, and are either too limited or of poor quality, leaving governments without the information they need to accurately address challenges facing millions of children, or to track progress towards achieving the Goals. The report also identifies priorities for enhancing the collection, analysis and use of data for children.
The Philippines Statistics Authority created a video highlighting the importance of Civil Registration, how and where to do this and who to ask for help. This included birth registration, certificate of marriage and death registration. Click the link to watch to video on Facebook.
The first meeting of the newly established national CRVS coordination mechanism was held 1 March in Male. The meeting brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Health, Department of National Registration, National Centre for Information Technology, and the National Bureau of Statistics and was chaired by the State Minister of Health. Challenges to improve the CRVS system were highlighted by the experiences with writing the first vital statistics report of the Maldives.
The Regional Steering Group on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific is pleased to welcome its new Chair. The Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services in Fiji has accepted to continue Fiji's leadership on CRVS. Prior to taking up the appointment as Minister for Health and Medical Services, the Hon. Minister Ms. Rosy Sofia Akbar served as the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, a position she held very close to hearth.

The Sustainable Development Goals give increased impetus for improving CRVS systems since a large proportion of the indicators are relying heavily on data, which can be obtained from well functioning CRVS systems. In addition to this, two specific indicators highlight the need for registration.
