The Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS will be taking place from the 16th to 19th November, 2021. It will be the occasion to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity. Preparations to get as much valuable inputs for the conference has already started, for example through the children and youth consultation, have already started and updates will be published on this website regularly.

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data and the Centre of Excellence for CRVS Systems at IDRC are organizing a webinar this Thursday. It is the first in a 2-part webinar series to disseminate the findings of a newly released compendium “The Nexus Between Civil Registration and Social Protection Systems: Five Country Practices”.
The Centre of Excellence for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics systems has recently launched a compendium on the links between CRVS and social protections systems. Based on experiences in Argentina, Chile, Namibia, Republic of Korea, and Tunisia, it stresses the importance of universal registration to improve public service delivery.
The World Bank has announced that another round of the Advanced-Level (Facilitated) Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) eLearning Course is now open for enrollment. This course covers 13 modules and is virtually guided by international experts who further facilitate online discussions and assignments. It requires the completion of the Basic-level (Self-paced) CRVS course.

As part of its ongoing support for countries improving the performance of their CRVS systems, particularly death registration and causes of death, the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia (SEARO) is supporting CRVS strengthening in seven countries. The countries selected for the project are India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Timor Leste.
CRVS systems play a significant role for all individuals by ensuring the registration of births, deaths, marriages, and other vital events, and the recording of causes of death. They provide individuals with legal forms of identification, enabling access to government services such as education and healthcare but also facilitating opening a bank account, formal employment and getting a driving license or a passport.
