  • Preparations for the Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific

    The Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS will be taking place from the 16th to 19th November, 2021. It will be the occasion to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity. Preparations to get as much valuable inputs for the conference has already started, for example through the children and youth consultation, have already started and updates will be published on this website regularly.

  • Midterm CRVS Decade (2015-2024) Progress

    ESCAP is collecting country midterm questionnaires to measure regional progress through the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024). Responses will inform and guide preparations for the Second Ministerial Conference in November 2021.

The CRVS community in Asia and the Pacific is now actively preparing for the celebration of the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), planned for 16 to 19 November 2021. In this effect, many of our partners and member countries are leading actions and publications to establish where the region stands and to fill the remaining gaps.

Armenia continues to make registration more convenient

Armenia recently updated various registration procedures. For instance, the Ministry of Justice launched a new on-site birth registration programme focusing on registration of births and acknowledgement of paternity in hospitals. For families, this means registration of births and other services can be performed on-site in the hospitals. Presently, these new procedures are implemented in seven hospitals in Yerevan and another three hospitals outside the capital are set to begin the programme soon.

Congratulations to Pakistan on their success in raising birth registration awareness

The South Korean AD STARS, an awards platform and innovation hub for Asian businesses, awarded Telenor Pakistan a Gold Star Award for 2020 for its work on the Digital Birth Registration Initiative. Through a rigorous screening conducted by 184 judges, only 1,651 entries made it to the shortlist out of a total of 20,028 entries that came in from around the world from 57 Countries.

Global CRVS group conducts a four-part webinar series on COVID-19 and CRVS

The UN Statistics Division, in close cooperation with the Organization of America States, ECLAC, the Global CRVS Group and CLARCIEV (Latin American and Caribbean Council for Civil Registration, Identity and Vital Statistics) concluded a series of four webinars on the impact of COVID-19 on civil registration and vital statistics in Latin American countries.

The Centre of Excellence for CRVS Systems has launched a new Directory of Experts online platform

The new online platform hosts a diverse listing of individual experts and organizations focused on strengthening CRVS systems. The Directory aims to connect governments, practitioners and experts from across the global CRVS community to develop, strengthen, and scale-up civil registration and vital statistics systems. It also allows organizations to share news announcements and job opportunities in a communal online space.
