Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

  • Asia-Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Research Forum

    The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) organized the first Asia-Pacific CRVS Research Forum which was held from 3-4 April 2023. Hosted by ESCAP in Bangkok, the fully online event offered a major research, information sharing, and capacity-building opportunity for participants. They were able to present at and attend paper presentations and interactive sessions, including networking opportunities.

Meeting of the Brisbane Accord Group (BAG)

Regional and country level representatives from partner agencies will meet on the 25-27 October for the Brisbane Accord Group meeting in Suva, Fiji, where regional progress and engagement in The Pacific Vital Statistics Action Plan (PVSAP) will be discussed. This meeting will focus on the activities that are currently being undertaken by partners in the region, in addition to country updates on the successes and challenges of registration coverage.

Regional technical consultation on monitoring the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Regional Office for South-East Asia, World Health Organization is organizing a Regional technical consultation on monitoring the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in New Delhi, India. The overall objective of the technical consultation is “to enhance national capacity to monitor the health-related SDGs including equity analysis.”

Technical guidance to D4H staff for the introduction of verbal autopsy into civil registration and vital statistics systems

Accurate cause of death (COD) information is fundamental to good public health practice. The principal sources of information are medical certificates of COD for deaths in hospitals and verbal autopsies for non-hospital deaths. A verbal autopsy (VA) is a process whereby relatives of the deceased respond to questions about the medical history and terminal illness of the decedent (i.e. the illness that led directly to death). These two sources of COD data are complementary.
