The Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS will be taking place from the 16th to 19th November, 2021. It will be the occasion to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity. Preparations to get as much valuable inputs for the conference has already started, for example through the children and youth consultation, have already started and updates will be published on this website regularly.

The CRVS community in Asia and the Pacific is now actively preparing for the celebration of the midpoint of the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), planned for 16 to 19 November 2021. The ESCAP Statistics Division, in collaboration with international and national organizations, is organizing a three-part seminar series under the theme, “Inequalities in CRVS: Let’s really get every one in the picture!” as part of the Stats Café series. This three-part series will provide practical and clear guidance on measuring the inequalities in CRVS with the ultimate goal of narrowing the gap in civil registration.
The CRVS Stakeholders of Maldives started working on the improvement of CRVS as part of a larger project on the assessment, analysis and redesign for the birth and death registration business processes. This project, to be concluded by the end of March, is supported by ESCAP as part of it's long running collaboration with the Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative in support of the implementation of the Regional Action Framework on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific.
Accurate medical certification of death plays a critical role in the generation of high-quality mortality data, but certifying physicians are often working in time-poor, high-pressure settings. In response to this issue, Data for Health is excited to share their course, which will allow both undergraduate and early-career physicians to gain a comprehensive understanding of MCCOD that can be easily applied to their work.

What is your current title and role?
A well-functioning CRVS system helps to ensure that every person has a legal identity, facilitating access to the benefits and protections of the State. Despite national and universal efforts to “get every one in the picture”, disparities in coverage of hard-to-reach and marginalized populations remain.

Despite national and universal efforts to “get every one in the picture”, disparities in coverage of hard-to-reach and marginalized populations remain.
The purpose of this Guide and the files it accompanies, hereinafter referred to as the resource kit, is to enable the production of vital statistics reports, primarily using civil registration data.
The resource kit has three parts:
1. Guide: Part 1 consists of a brief introduction and background, followed by Part 2, which provides detailed guidance on how to complete the vital statistics Template document.
2. Template: This document contains notes to assist in the completion of tables and figures for the vital statistics report.
The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging country mortality surveillance systems in unprecedented ways, while also highlighting the necessity for accurate, timely and reliable mortality data. Without high quality data on communities impacted by the virus, local decision-makers are unable to direct resources to the most vulnerable.
In Iran, in November of 2019, the first Iranian identity card was issued for a child born to an Iranian mother and a foreign father. The news follows an October announcement by the Guardian Council to ratify a bill amending the law on conferring citizenship on children born to an Iranian mother and a foreign father regardless of where they are born.
