The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

ASSESSMENT, ANALYSIS AND REDESIGN OF CIVIL REGISTRATION AND VITAL STATISTICS PROCESSES (CRVS) NAURU: Report on the implementation of the CRVS Systems Improvement framework

This side event for 55th UNSC, organized by ESCAP, ECA, UNICEF, UNFPA, Vital Strategies, and UNDP under the umbrella of the UN Legal Identity Agenda, provides an opportunity for national statistical offices, international organizations and delegates of Permanent Missions to acquire a more detailed overview of global, regional and national progress towards achieving universal legal identity and target 16.9 on birth registration for children under 5 years.

During times of conflict or natural disasters, it is often even harder to measure adult mortality through surveys. A side event to the Statistical Commission was held on 29 January to highlight some experiences from countries using adapted measures during times of unique circumstances.
To further support the ongoing strengthening of the Lao PDR CRVS system, ESCAP and UNFPA have developed a joint program in 2023-2024 aiming to enhance the capacity of Lao stakeholders through key activities.
