It has been the occasion to celebrate progress through the CRVS Decade (2015-2024), identify remaining challenges, emphasize CRVS for sustainable development and promote CRVS as the foundation for legal identity.

  • Launch of Getting Every One in the Picture - a snapshot of progress midway through the Asian and Pacific Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade

    In preparation of the Second Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific held from 16 to 19 November 2021, ESCAP has prepared a report on the situation of CRVS systems in the region. By celebrating the progresses and highlighting the challenges remaining to achieving universal registration systems, the report aims at shaping the priorities for the second half of the Decade.

  • Resources for civil registration during the COVID-19 pandemic

    The current pandemic is disrupting CRVS systems all over the world, but also highlighting why well-functioning systems are more essential than ever. As a result, the UN Statistics Division, the World Health Organization and the UN Legal Identity Agenda Task Force developed COVID-19 resources offering guidance for civil registration stakeholders on maintaining CRVS activities.

Stats Brief on Maternal Mortality and the Importance of comprehensive civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems

Issue no. 12, September 2015

This Stats Brief traces the progress in Asia and the Pacific with reducing maternal mortality since 1990. It outlines the approaches used for estimating maternal mortality and highlights related challenges and limitations. It explains the value of comprehensive civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems as a sustainable data source for calculation of accurate maternal mortality indicators.

Monitoring the state of statistical operations under the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Asia-Pacific region (1st Round)

This report presents a summary of the Asia-Pacific results of the global survey on impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the NSOs. The survey, launched on 5 May 2020, is the first wave of a global survey to assess the impacts of the pandemic on the operation of NSOs, their responses, and the ensuing needs of financial and technical support.

Monitoring the state of statistical operations under the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Asia-Pacific region (2nd Round)

This report presents a summary of the Asia-Pacific results of the second round of a global survey on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on statistical operations of National Statistical Offices launched on 7 July 2020. The global survey was carried out under the aegis of United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Statistics Division (UNSD), in partnership with World Bank’s Development Data Group and in coordination with the UN Regional Commissions.

Connecting vital events registration and gender equality (ConVERGE)

The Centre of Excellence for CRVS Systems, along with Open Data Watch and UNFPA, will be hosting a conference from 25-26 February 2020 on "Connecting Vital Events Registration and Gender Equality". The ConVERGE Conference will assess the progress made in the CRVS and gender equality field since their first annual meeting in 2018.
