The Ministerial Declaration on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific emphasizes the need to address CRVS inequalities among hard-to-reach and marginalized populations, promoting universality and equity in civil registration regardless of factors such as gender, religion, or ethnicity. Countries are encouraged to conduct assessments to assess where such inequalities may exist.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is the main legislative organ of ESCAP and reports to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It provides a forum for all governments of the region to review and discuss economic and social issues and to strengthen regional cooperation.
Pursuant to ESCAP resolution 72/6 Committing to the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific, Governments and other stakeholders will convene at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD 2017) on the theme of “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing Asia-Pacific.”
The United Nations Statistical Commission, established in 1947, is the highest body of the global statistical system. It brings together the Chief Statisticians from member states from around the world. It is the highest decision making body for international statistical activities especially the setting of statistical standards, the development of concepts and methods and their implementation at the national and international level.

Regional and country level representatives from partner agencies will meet on the 25-27 October for the Brisbane Accord Group meeting in Suva, Fiji, where regional progress and engagement in The Pacific Vital Statistics Action Plan (PVSAP) will be discussed. This meeting will focus on the activities that are currently being undertaken by partners in the region, in addition to country updates on the successes and challenges of registration coverage.
