Since April 2015, the University of Melbourne (UoM) Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative (BD4H) has been working alongside key partners to support and develop functional civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems globally.

Through technical interventions, training, research and knowledge production, UoM BD4H has supported the development of national skills and capacity to increase the registration of births and deaths, improve the quality of cause of death (COD) information at hospitals, apply verbal autopsy (VA) to better understand probable causes of death in communities, and produce high-quality data sets and analysis skills to inform program and policy design across the globe.
