The UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (UNICEF-ROSA) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) are organizing a meeting of the Civil Registrars of South Asia to discuss common challenges, share innovative practices and explore potential collaboration. The Pacific Islands Regional Meeting on CRVS will be held from 22 to 25 February, in Noumea, New Caledonia.
In recent years, the Government of Pakistan has demonstrated increased commitment to social sector development, consequently leading to some notable successes. In particular, the country is celebrating the recent achievement of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) for sanitation, halving the proportion of the population without sustainable access to basic sanitation. Over the past two decades, the government has also made notable strides in combatting polio, increasing routine immunization and decreasing the number of out-ofschool children.
As Members and associate members prepare to set their own national targets for the CRVS Decade, ESCAP and partners have developed a set of guidelines to assist countries in this process.
As part of the reporting structure of the Regional Action Framework on Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in Asia and the Pacific, by the end of 2015, members and associate members are required to submit a baseline report to the ESCAP Secretariat through their designated national focal point. The present document is intended to facilitate the compilation of national data and inputs for this baseline report.
